Why this Weekend's BYU-Coastal Carolina game is important for Both BYU and Coastal Carolina.

College Gameday was supposed to head to Coastal Carolina and Liberty. However, Liberty was not able to play the game tomorrow because of Covid-19. This opened the door for BYU to get a quality game on their schedule with San Diego State as their only other game on their schedule. This game is huge for BYU because their strength of schedule as of now may not even be enough to get into the top 12 and potentially get a New Years Six bid. With this game, BYU can add a top 20 win to their resume and almost guarantee a spot in a New Years Six game.

Coastal Carolina will have a hard time vs a complete BYU team. The offense is averaging a staggering 47.6 points a game led by Heisman contender Zach Wilson. He has thrown for over 2,700 yards, 26 touchdowns and just two interceptions. He has also rushed for 191 yards and eight touchdowns. Their defense has been outstanding only averaging about 14 points game.

This game will also be a tough challenge for BYU. Coastal Carolina is 9-0 and looking to add another good win to their resume. Coastal Carolina has beaten 25th Louisiana on the road and Appalachian State at home this season. They come into this game averaging nearly 39 points a game led by quarterback Grayson Mccall. He has thrown for over 1,700 yards, 20 touchdowns and just one interception. Their defense has also been good only giving up around 17 points a game.

Coastal Carolina still has hopes of getting the group of five bid into a New Years Six game, and this game is going to go a long way in helping them get it with a little bit of help. If Coastal Carolina wins out and Cincinnati loses the AAC championship, they should be able get that bid.

Prediction for the game:

This should be an exciting game. I expect both quarterbacks to have big days. However, I believe Zach Wilson will prevail in this game and make his case to be the Heisman trophy winner this year and make BYU nearly a lock for a New Years Six bid this year. This would all but eliminate Coastal Carolina from the group of five bid.
