Every week for the remainder of the season, I will be giving my top eight teams in the country in college football based on how they did that week and what they have done throughout the entire season. Here are my top teams

8. BYU Cougars (8-0)

The Cougars continue to impress this season especially on both sides of the ball. They displayed it against Boise State defeating them 51-17 behind another great performance by quarterback Zach Wilson. He went 21 for 27 for 359 yards and two touchdowns and a rushing touchdown. On the season, Wilson is 2nd in the country in passing yards behind only SMU quarterback Shane Buechele. The team also is top ten in scoring offense and top ten in scoring defense. This was probably their hardest game remaining on their schedule. Their remaining schedule is North Alabama and San Diego State. The weak strength of schedule may keep them out of the College Football Playoff but if a few things go their way, they may find themselves in the discussion come selection Sunday.

7. Cincinnati Bearcats (6-0)

The Bearcats are coming off of another dominating performance beating the Houston Cougars 38-10. Quarterback Desmond Ridder had another really good game. He was 17 for 27 for 162 yards ,one touchdown and one interception. He also ran the ball 12 times for 103 yards and three touchdowns. This is marks the third straight game where the Bearcats have held their opponent to 13 points or less. During those three games, the Bearcats have outscored their opponents 129-33. The balanced offense along with one of the best defenses in the country is why they are at number seven. They do have a test in two weeks when they go on the road to take on the UCF Knights. All they can do is keep winning and hope for some chaos in the Power Five conferences and maybe they could become the first Group of Five school to make the College Football Playoff.

6. Texas A&M Aggies (5-1)

Ever since their 52-24 loss to Alabama, Texas A&M has won 4 straight games including a 48-3 win over South Carolina on Saturday. Quarterback Kellen Mond has played near flawless during this four-game winning streak. He has thrown 12 touchdowns and just one interception. Four of those touchdowns came against South Carolina. The Aggies have a fairly easy schedule to end the season. They play at Tennessee, at home against Ole Miss, at home against LSU, and at #24 Auburn. If they win out, they could be sitting at 9-1 and potentially not playing in the SEC Championship. With their only loss to Alabama and having that win against Florida, they may have an argument for playoff spot if enough chaos happens during the rest of the season.

5. Florida Gators (4-1)

The Gators get the nod over the Aggies despite the head to head loss because of their 44-28 win on Saturday against the Georgia Bulldogs. The Gators got behind 14-0 early in the first quarter but they went on to outscore the Bulldogs 44-14 the rest of the way led by quarterback Kyle Trask. He went 30 for 43 for 474 yards, four touchdowns, and 1 interception. The Gator defense was one of biggest stories. They held the Bulldogs quarterbacks to just 9 for 29 passing combined and also getting three interceptions. This win puts the Gators in the driver seat to get to the SEC Championship. If they win out and win the SEC, they will most likely make the College Football Playoff for the first time.

4. Clemson Tigers (7-1)

The Tiger fought their hearts out without their star quarterback Trevor Lawrence but came up just short losing to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish 47-40 in double overtime. Freshman quarterback D.J. Uiagalelei made his first road start of his career and played like a senior going 29 for 44 for 439 yards and two touchdowns despite the loss. The Tigers led 33-26 with under 2 minutes to go in regulation but the Fighting Irish tied the game with 22 seconds left. Each team exchanged touchdowns in the first overtime but the Tigers were unable to answer the Fighting Irish's in the second overtime. This loss should have little effect on where the Tigers will finish. If they win out, they will be in the ACC championship. They may have a chance to redeem that loss with Lawrence running the helm in the championship game.

3. Ohio State Buckeyes (3-0)

The Buckeyes continue to look sharp as they defeated the Rutgers Scarlett Knights 49-27 the offense has been the big story for the Buckeyes led by star quarterback Justin Fields. Fields is putting up video game numbers to start this season. He has thrown for 908 yards, 11 touchdowns and zero interceptions. He has also thrown only 11 incomplete passes all season. They will have arguably their biggest challenge in two weeks when the 10th ranked Indiana Hoosiers come to town. Other than that game, the Buckeyes have a pretty clear path to the college football playoff if they continue to win.

2. Notre Dame Fighting Irish (7-0)

The Fighting Irish got their biggest win in the Brian Kelly era when they took down the previous number one ranked Clemson Tigers 47-40 in double overtime. Quarterback Ian Book had a great game going 22 for 39 for 310 yards and a touchdown. He also led the game tying touchdown drive at the end of regulation. This was a massive win for Kelly. He came into this game with a 0-5 record against AP top five teams and now he has the Fighting Irish in prime position to make a run a championship. His team will have a few difficult road games in their next few games. They will be at Boston College this weekend and will be at North Carolina after their bye week. Everything is in front of the Fighting Irish to win it all.

  1. Alabama Crimson Tide (6-0)

The Crimson Tide have been consistent all year and that is a big reason why they are the number one team in the country. Another reason that they have two top 12 wins this season against Texas A&M and Georgia , and they have won those games by an average of 27.5 points. Quarterback Mac Jones is having a outstanding season. He has thrown for 2,196 yards, 16 touchdowns and just 2 interceptions. Running back Najee Harris has also been good rushing for 714 yards and 14 touchdowns. They are in great position to return to the College Football Playoff after missing it for the first time last season. They have a chance this weekend to avenge their loss from last year against the LSU Tigers.
